Polymarket has quickly become the go-to platform for trading on real-world events. This guide breaks down how it works, how to trade your first market, and how Zerion helps you track every position effortlessly.

What is Polymarket?

Polymarket is a leading prediction market platform where you can trade on real-world events.

Instead of guessing outcomes or arguing online, Polymarket gives you a way to put money behind your beliefs. Polymarket covers everything from politics and sports to crypto, global events, and pop culture. Each market is structured around a simple yes-or-no question, and the prices represent the probability the crowd assigns to that outcome.

How Polymarket works

Polymarket operates using "shares" that represent either side of a prediction.

Buying YES or NO for any event on Polymarket

If a market asks, “Will BTC hit $150k in 2025?” you can buy YES or NO shares. Prices move based on demand, and your profit comes from buying low and selling high — or holding until the market resolves. When the outcome is known, winning shares settle at $1 while losing shares resolve to $0. This way, the prices are probabilities: if a YES costs $0.50 it’s effectively a 50% chance of something happening.

Behind the scenes, Polymarket runs onchain infrastructure on Polygon, ensuring transparency, verifiability, and trustless settlement. Traders trade with each other using a limit order book and each market lives onchain. All prices are settled in USDC on Polygon.

The best part is that Polymarket doesn’t currently charge any fee. They even cover gas fees on Polygon.

Will there be a Polymarket airdrop?

There is frequent speculation about whether Polymarket will launch a token or hold an airdrop.

As of now, the team has not officially confirmed plans. However, speaking on a podcast, Polymarket CMO said, “There will be a token, there will be an airdrop”. But the plans are not imminent.

If a token ever launches, early and active users could benefit. But nothing is guaranteed.

Still, even without a Polymarket airdrop, you can already make money by trading events.
